Add Metadata to the Course

The platform provides the ability to tag courses with different user-facing metadata for searchability, filtering and categorization. Once the course is created, the publisher can add course metadata before publishing the course on the portal's library. The metadata can be edited by the publisher after publishing the course as well. 

Follow the below steps to add metadata to the course:

1. Set up the course.

2. You can go ahead and add content in the course first or add metadata.

3. Select the " Add Metadata" dashboard.

4. Fill in the below details on the "Add Metadata" dashboard page. 

 (In the Metadata form, fields marked as * are mandatory. The other fields are optional.)

1. Author: The author's name (Maximum 250 character)

2. ISBN: ISBN code (Maximum 50 character, including - and _)

3.Content Code (SKU number): This is a unique identifier code for the course (Maximum 50 characters).

6. Price: Price of the course. Other currencies can be added as per the requirement. (Maximum 8 character including 2 decimal places)

7. Check the checkbox in the following list, to specify course availability. 

  •  Access Code Required: Content will be available only through an access code.
  •  Access Through Assignment Only: Content will be available if only the teacher assigns the content to the student.
  •  Available for Selling (Purchase Order): Content will be available only through school/district licenses.
  •  Available for Free (on the Content Store): Content will be available for free on the eCommerce portal.
  •  Available on the Content Store: Content will be available only on the eCommerce portal.
  •  Available Only to Teachers: Content will be available only to teachers in the Teacher Resources.  


The platform offers the ability to tag content with different user-facing metadata for searchability, filtering and categorization. The content metadata is added by the publisher, at the time of adding content to the library. Once the content is published, the metadata can also be edited by the publisher. 

The master metadata values and fields are editable, to match the customer's metadata values.

The following content metadata fields are present on the portal:

 (In the Metadata form, fields marked as * are mandatory. The other fields are optional.)

1. Title - Title of the product to be uploaded (Maximum 250 characters)

2. Description - Short description of the product (Maximum 1,500 characters)

3. Author - Author name (Maximum 250 characters)

4. ISBN - ISBN code (Maximum 50 characters, including - and _)

5. Content code (SKU number) - This is a unique identifier code for the product. (Maximum 50 character). 

6. Price - Price of the product. The currency can be customized as per the need. (Maximum 8 characters, including 2 decimal places) 

7. Check the checkbox in the following list, to specify content availability. 

  •  Access Code Required - Content will be available only through an access code.
  •  Access Through Assignment Only - Content will be available only if the teacher assigns the content to the student.
  •  Available for Selling (Purchase Order) - Content will be available only through school/district licenses.
  •  Available for Free (on Content Store) - Content will be available for free on the eCommerce portal.
  •  Available on Content Store - Content will be available only on the E-commerce portal.
  •  Available Only to Teachers - Content will be available only to teachers in Teacher Resources.

8. Keywords for Search - You can search the content using keywords in the search box on the library.  Add keywords in the space provided. (Max 10,000 characters, use a comma between keywords)

9. Content group - You can create content groups and add the content in these groups. Use the content group filter to search for content by groups in the library.

10. Theme - Theme can be used for the filter. You can add a theme color filter to the book in the metadata and later search for the book in the library using this color filter. 

11. Reader theme (right-hand side) - All themes for the latest app version 2.0 are derived from this reader theme.

12. Reader theme (left-hand side) - All themes for the old version of the app (version 1.17) are derived on this reader theme.

13. Language - If you are uploading content in different languages, you can fill in this metadata field. The language filter can be used to search for content in the library. 

14. Publisher - Can be used if you are uploading multiple publishers' content. The publisher field can be used to filter content in the library.

15. Primary subject - Select the subject metadata and link it to the content. The primary subject list can be customized as per your need and used to filter content in the library.

16. Secondary subject - Select the subject metadata and link it to the content. The secondary subject list can be customized as per your need and you can use it to search for content in the library.

17. Genre  - You can select the genre of the content from the default genre list. The genre master data can be customized and used to search for content in the library.

18. Book type - You can select the book type from the default book type list. The book-type master data can be customized.

19. Age - You can add the age range for which the content is suitable. The age filter can be used to search for content in the library.

20. Grade - You can add the grade range for which the content is suitable. The grade filter can be used to search for content in the library. 

21. Reading Level (Lexile) -  You can select the reading level from the default reading level (Lexile) list. 

22. Reading level (early) -  You can select the reading level from the default reading level (early) list. 

23. Guided reading level - You can select the guided reading level from the default list. 

24. DRA level -  You can select the DRA level from the default list. The DRA-level master data can be customized.
