LTI 1.0 Outbound - Introduction

  • Last updated on July 22, 2021 at 8:00 AM

LTI is an abbreviation for Learning Tools Interoperability, which is a standard protocol developed by the IMS Global Learning Consortium. MagicBox is LTI compliant, which allows the platform to integrate with a school’s Learning Management System (LMS), such as Schoology and Canvas, as a single-sign-on tool.

In LTI Outbound, MagicBox acts as a consumer because it uses the LTI credentials from the external LMS to create an LTI external tool. The LMS resource can be accessed by users rostered on the MagicBox portal.

Follow the below steps to create an LTI external tool:

1. Log in to the portal.

2. Click "Setting" on the left-hand side menu.

3. Click "LTI Setup."

You will see the below screen.

4. Select LTI Outbound.

5. Click "LTI Outbound" to create a new LTI external tool. You will see the below screen.

6. Select the "Global" radio button to generate a global external tool. This will allow users to be rostered as individual teachers or students, who are not associated with any school on MagicBox.

  • Enter the app name. (This information is provided by the LTI Tool provider)

  • Enter the Launch URL, Consumer & Secret Key. (This information is provided by the LTI tool provider)

7. Click "Save."

The next step is to link the outbound external tool with the content. Therefore add this tool to a content and add the content in the license so that the student can launch this external tool via the content.
