Device-Based License

Device-based licenses, is a kind of a license for school and districts wherein the total count of the users derives the access to the content on the platform on restricted number of devices. While creating device-based license, publisher define the count of the users and the count of devices on which the users could access the content within the PO (purchase order). To avoid piracy and have control on the user to prevent the misuse of the offline usage there is a restriction on the number of devices wherein users can have a perpetual login and access to the content. The user once allocated with the content within the PO created through device-based license could also access the content on the web platform without any limitation.
In a device-based license, the total number of users that can be rostered in the school/district will be based on the restriction on number of login id. The number of devices on which the content can be accessed by these users will depend on the number of licenses.
- In a device-based license, it is mandatory that the device should be activated first by a teacher or school admin by logging in first on the device. Until this happens, the students will not be able to access content associated with that license on a given device.
- If the number of license count are exhausted, it means that you have reached the device limit and won't be able to access the portal from other devices. The school/district admin or teacher can release the device count from the 'Management Console' on the web portal. This will deactivate the license for the device which has been released in the previous step.
For Example - If a purchase order contains 50 licenses of Math books and login ID restriction is 100, it means that the content can be assigned to 100 users. These 100 users can access the content from 50 active devices only.
License Consumption in Device Type License
For a device-based license, the license consumption will depend on the "Number of login ID restrictions" mentioned while creating the license.
For first-time school/district onboarding
Example- If the publisher creates a device-based license for a school, where the number of login ID restrictions = 100
It means a total of 100 users (including students, teachers, school admin) can be rostered in the school, and the license will be distributed and consumed by these users only.
Note- It is mandatory to create a license first in order to roster students and teachers on the portal. School admins can be created even if you do not have a school license yet. Once the license is created the count of school admin is automatically deducted from the license. i.e if the publisher has created 5 school admins and the number of login ID restriction is 100, it means 95 licenses will be remaining (i.e. another 95 users including school admin, teachers, and students can be rostered in the school).
After onboarding, for new license allocation
Example- If the school has 100 students, 25 teachers, and 5 school admin out of which you want to give license access to only 50 students, 8 teachers and 2 school admin.
Then, the 'number of login id restriction' while creating the license should be minimum 60 i.e. (50 students +8 teachers +2 school admin)
Note:
- If a user has a device-based license, they can also access the content over the web from any number of devices, without any restriction.
