Create Descriptive type questions and enable auto-evaluate

Publishers, school/district admins and teachers can create descriptive questions on the portal. These are open-ended questions. The answers could be in the form of a list, a single word, a few sentences, a paragraph or an essay. When auto evaluation is enabled, teachers/publishers can provide an ideal answer on the basis of which, the Auto-evaluate engine will interpret the concept and grammar for the student response to provide the percentage score to the student.

Follow the below steps to create a descriptive type question:

1. Log in to the portal.

2. Click “Assessment” on the left-hand side menu.

3. Click “Questions” in the sub-menu.

You will be redirected to the “Questions” page. Here you can view the list of questions that are already created.

4. Click “New Question” to add a new question.

5. Click on “Descriptive” type question from the Question Type menu.

You will be redirected to the “Descriptive Question” page.

6. Enter the question text in the space provided using the Wysiwyg editor .

7. Check the “Auto Evaluate” checkbox, if you want the student’s response to be auto evaluated with the “Ideal Answer.”

8. Enter the “Ideal Answer” in the space provided.

Note:

  • The  "Ideal Answer" should be a compilation of all the points that a teacher/publisher wants to cover for that question to evaluate the student’s response.

10. The teacher/publisher can enable hints for the descriptive question and set the question setting as per the requirement. (Follow the instruction for details)

Note

The 'add hint' and 'add teacher' hint button on the portal will be functional as it is. If the hints are enabled then a student will get a hint as added by the teacher/publisher once the student is submitting the assessment.

If the teacher/publisher enables question-level feedback, then the student will get the score auto-generated by the Machine Learning algorithm once the question is submitted.

11.  Click on the tick icon to save the question to be added in a standard assessment.

Once the descriptive question is created the workflow for adding the question in the assessment and assigning the assessment to the student will remain the same. (Click here for instructions)
