Create “Fill in the Blanks with Drag and Drop” Type Question

Publishers, school/district admins and teachers can create different types of questions on platform. Fill in the blanks with drag and drop questions consist of a phrase, sentence, or paragraph with a blank space, where the student drags the missing word or words from the option list and drops in the blank space. You can create a question with single or multiple blanks. There is only a single correct answer for each blank. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) and blank (choice level feedback) for fill in the blank with drag-drop type questions. These questions are added on the “Questions” page and can be used while creating a standard test.
Follow the below steps to create fill in the blanks with drag and drop type questions:
1. Log in to the Portal.
2. Click “Assessment” on the left-hand side menu.
3. Click “Questions” in the sub-menu.
You will be redirected to the “Questions” page. Here you can view the list of questions that are already created.
4. Click “New Question” to add a new question.
5. Click on “Fill in the Blanks with Drag and Drop” type question from the Question Type menu.
You will be redirected to the “Fill in the Blanks with Drag and Drop” page.
6. Enter the question text in the space provided using the Wysiwyg editor.
7. Insert the “Blank” by clicking on the “Insert Fill in Blank Input” in the Wysiwyg Editor.
8. Enter the answer options for each blank in the space provided.
Note: The student will drag the chosen answer options and drop them in the blank spaces provided in the questions.
9. Click on the tick icon to select the correct matching answer for respective rows and columns.
Note: It is mandatory to insert at least one blank field for each question. You can add more than one blank field in the question by clicking on the “Insert Fill in Blank Input” in the Wysiwyg Editor.
10. Click on the tick icon to save the question.
Note- The platform also provides multi-language support based on user-language. The question author could create the version of assessments and question in multiple languages by selecting the language from the drop-down menu and based on the user language the appropriate language version of the assessment will be shown to the users.
Example - If the question author creates an assessment in Spanish and English language both. When a user with the Spanish language will attempt this assessment then they will have all the questions presented in the Spanish language and if, it's an English language user then in English translation will be shown.
You can opt for the following optional question settings while creating a fill in the blanks with drag and drop type question.
1. Add Hint
1. Click on the “Add Hint” button to add a hint to the question. This hint will be visible to the student if they opt for the Hint option while answering the question.
2. Click on the “New” in the “Hints” box to add a new hint. You can add a maximum of 5 hints for each question.
3. Check the “Deduct Marks on Every Hint” checkbox and enter the number of marks to be deducted (equal to or less than the total marks of the question) in the space provided. These marks will be deducted if a student takes the help of hints to answer the question.
2. Add Teacher Hint
Click on the “Add Teacher Hint” button to add a hint to the question. This hint will be visible to the teacher when they are evaluating the student's response for the question.
3. Add Question Level Feedback
Question author can provide correct and incorrect answer feedback for the fill in the blank with drag and drop type question, using this feature. This feedback will be visible to the student at the time of question evaluation.
Students will get the correct answer feedback if they have given the correct answer for the question.
Students will get the incorrect answer feedback if they have given the incorrect answer for the question.
- Click on the “Setting” icon.
- You will see a setting pop up on the screen.
- Toggle ON the “Feedback” option to enable question level feedback.
4. Enter the “Correct Answer Feedback” and/or the “Incorrect Answer Feedback” in the space provided.
4. Add choice level feedback-
Question author can provide answer feedback on each choice (i.e. blank). This feedback will be visible to the student at the time of the question evaluation.
1.Click on the “setting” icon.
You will see a setting pop up on the screen.
2.Toggle ON the “Feedback on Choices” option to enable choice level feedback.
5. Set the Question Score
The platform provides a default scoring of 1 for each question. You can change the score from the Settings.
1. Click on the “Setting” icon. You will see a setting pop up on the screen.
2. Enter the score in the space provided.
6. Set the Question Tag
You can set meaningful tags with each question.
1. Click on the “setting” icon. You will see a setting pop up on the screen.
2. Search for a tag from the search box or click “Browse.”
3. You will see the below "Add_tag" pop up if you click on “Browse.”
4. Select a category from the dropdown list.
5. Check the "Tags" checkbox in the Tag Description box.
6. Click “Save.”
7. More Setting
You can handle various other question settings by clicking on “More Setting.”
