Question Types

Publishers, school/district admins, and teachers can create different types of questions on the platform through the question authoring tool. 


These questions can then be ingested into a test. (Refer to the Standard test authoring tool)


The platform supports the following question types:



1. Single Choice: 

In a single choice type question, there is only one correct answer and the rest of the options are distractors. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) and choices (choice level feedback) for single choice type questions.

2. Multiple Choice:

In a multiple-choice type question, there is one or more than one correct answer and the rest of the options are distractors that are plausible but incorrect answers to the question. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) and choices (choice level feedback) for multiple choice type questions.

3. Ordering:

Ordering questions require the student to rearrange a number of items into the correct order. This could be chronological or procedural, for example. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) for ordering type questions.

4. Association: 

Association questions are used to assess the recognition and recall of related information. The response is deemed correct when the respondent has successfully matched all of the options. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) and choice (choice level feedback)  for association type questions.

5. Match the Following:

Match the following type of question provides a list of sub-questions, along with a list of answers. The respondent must "match" the correct answers with each question. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) for match the following type of questions.

6. Fill in the Blanks:

Fill in the blank questions consist of a phrase, sentence, or paragraph with a blank space, where the respondent provides the missing word or phrase. You can create a question with single or multiple blank spaces. There is only a single correct answer  for each blank. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) and blanks (choice level feedback) for fill in the blank type questions.

7. Fill in the Blanks with Dropdown: 

Fill in the blanks with dropdown questions consist of a phrase, sentence, or paragraph with a blank space, where the student selects the missing word or words from the dropdown list. You can create a question with single or multiple blanks. There is only a single answer correct for each blank. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) and blank (choice level feedback) for fill in the blank with drop-down type questions.

8. Fill in the Blanks with Drag and Drop:

Fill in the blanks with drag and drop questions consist of a phrase, sentence, or paragraph with a blank space, where the respondent drags the missing word or words from the option list and drops in the blank space. You can create a question with single or multiple blanks. There is only a single correct answer for each blank. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) and blank (choice level feedback) for fill in the blank with drag-drop type questions.

9. Descriptive Type: 

Descriptive questions are open-ended questions. The answers could be in the form of a list, a single word, a few sentences, a paragraph or an essay. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) for descriptive type questions.

10. Comprehension:

These are reading comprehension questions, which are accompanied by a number of questions. You can add multiple questions types within one comprehension question.

Note- You cannot add a comprehension type question within a comprehension.

11. Audio Recording: 

Audio recording type of questions allows the students to audio record their answers. You can provide feedback on each question (question level feedback) for audio recording type questions.
